Our Library

When the library flooded last Spring little did we realize it would be a blessing in disguise. Our insurers were very cooperative, and almost immediately we had damp books taken away to be restored, carpets stripped away, boardroom table removed for repolishing and dehumidifiers in place.

The room has been out of action for several months, but it is nearly restored, with the carpet replaced by freshly sanded and sealed wood flooring which was discovered underneath. Thanks to our librarian, Stan, who boxed up all of the books which a chain-gang of congregants then helped remove to the Montefiore Hall, to Oshik, Ivor and Mark who moved the bookcases out into the office, to James and Prue who helped put them back and to everyone who tolerated the disruptions.

Very soon the library will be back in full use and we hope congregants and students will make use of the growing collection of prayer books, bibles, books on Jewish practice, on Midrash and Talmud, on history, on Israel, some fiction and biography, as well as recent issues of Jewish Renaissance and Manna. We also have a growing collection of up-to-date reference books. Ring Lynda in the office to ensure she will be there and come visit, browse, make yourself a cup of tea and read by the light of the new halogen lamp.
